OptiBP is designed to measure blood pressure optically using a technique called photoplethysmography (PPG). Our algorithm that uses the PPG signal relies on the detection of regular pulses in your blood flow. If your pulse is irregular, measurement performance may be affected or not possible.
If OptiBP detects an irregular rhythm, it will display an "irregular heartbeats detected" error message and will not provide a blood pressure result.
There are a number of factors that can cause the recorded pulses to be irregular, including motion artifacts from too much movement of the finger while recording or an actual irregular heartbeat. If you are concerned that you have an irregular heartbeat, you should consult your doctor.
